FAIRBANKS-Scooter Bynum of the Monroe Rams was drafted in the 18th round of the MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds on the third day of the draft.
Bynum, a recent Monroe graduate, will put the majors on hold. He still plans to play for the Goldpanners this summer and go on to Arizona Western College instead of accepting the Reds offer.
The Rams center fielder and Trajon Langdon, who was drafted by the Padres in 1994, are the only Alaskan non-pitchers to get drafted in the first 20 rounds of the MLB Draft.
